FMC was founded in 1986 by Truxton Terkla and Patrick Krier.  Each came from totally unrelated industries, where there was a strong emphasis on Customer Service.  Truxton worked in the hospitality industry for Westin Hotels and Patrick was employed by Lanier in the computer sales division. Starting as a small janitorial service with two employees, FMC soon grew to 75 employees and  $1.5 million in sales between 1987 and 1994.

Inc. Magazine honored FMC in the Fall of 1993, by naming them to be one of the Inc. 500 "Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies

Award

Inc 500 Award

In 1994 and again in 1998,  the Kent Chamber of Commerce awarded FMC the title of :

"Small Business of the Year".

The criteria for winning this award, included company growth and staying power, service to the customers and innovation in the face of challenges.  Considering they're a small non-franchised business, that speaks volumes!

As FMC continued to grow, a number of their satisfied customers asked them whether or not they would be willing to maintain the exterior of the buildings, in addition to the interior.  Striving to meet the needs of the customer, the necessary experts were hired and the Commercial Landscaping Division was born.  Since then, with both divisions enjoying steady growth, additional departments offering a wide range  of services have been developed.

Facility Maintenance Contractors happily celebrated a record year in 2001, with $3.7 million in sales and a customer retention rate to be envied.  Had Customer Service not been the number one priority, none of this would have been possible!
